What Is a Diamond Shape?
Diamonds have a shape based on their physical form. The clarity of a diamond is not included in the 4Cs but plays an important role when choosing one. The difference between a diamond cut and a diamond shape can be tricky. A diamond’s cut refers to its facets, angles, and reflection of light. Asschers, brilliants, cushion cuts, emerald cuts, hearts shaped, marquises cuts, ovals cuts, pear cuts, princess cuts, and radiant cuts are the most common shapes.
Round Diamond
The round brilliant cut diamond is by far the most common diamond shape and has advantages over other shapes in light reflection, maximizing brightness, and so on.
oval Diamond
An oval cut diamond is a modified version of the round cut and is made for people who like round shaped diamonds but want an unusual shape. A diamond cut in an oval shape gives the illusion of length and elongation.
Princess Diamond
Princess cut diamonds are the most popular diamond shape. Like round shape diamonds, they are compatible with all ring styles. Princess cut diamonds are gorgeously shaped, which maximizes their brilliance.
Pear Diamond
A pear shaped diamond combines the round and marquise cut diamond with a tapered point at one end. The tapered end should have the same apex as the rounded end of the diamond. A diamond’s 58 facets allow light to pass like a round diamond.
Emerald Diamond
Precision and beauty make this style popular. Because it’s cut in the shape of an emerald, it’s called the emerald cut. The brilliance of diamonds cut in a kite or triangular shape might not be, but its ice-like clarity makes up for it. Step cuts are also called this style.
Asscher Diamond
Asscher cut diamonds are bright, shiny, and clear, but their inclusions are easy to see. The Asscher cut diamond is also known as the Square Emerald Cut. The corners appear to be octagonal at first glance because they are cropped.
Cushion Diamond
Cushion cut diamonds have 58 facets and are a combination of round and square cuts. The diamond has rounded corners and resembles a pillow in appearance. This gives it a romantic and antique impression.
Heart Diamond
Heart shaped diamonds are unique, a symbol of love. It resembles a brilliant cut diamond with an aperture at the top. Heart shaped diamonds must be divided into two lobes when selecting one. Heart shaped diamonds under 0.50 carat look smaller when set in prongs, so if you want a bigger diamond, don’t get one.
Marquise Diamond
The modified brilliant cut diamond has a long and narrow shape, which makes it ideal for engagement rings. Marquise shaped diamonds have a boat-like shape that magnifies a diamond’s appearance. The large surface area of marquise shaped diamonds makes them an excellent choice.
Radiant Diamond
A radiant cut diamond is square in shape and has brilliant cut facets on its crown and pavilion. An emerald cut diamond combines the characteristics of round diamonds.
Buying Tip
Diamonds are usually given as gifts or engaged to people who prefer shape. When selecting a diamond shape, the purchaser should include input from the recipient of the diamond, if possible, as well as other factors such as price and quality. Engagement diamonds with fancy shapes are particularly affected by this.
